Puddles Pity Party– Royals (cover)

This amazing cover is part of a series of guest-star red cover pieces collectively called Postmodern Jukebox found on Youtube. Here, operatic-trained Puddles (the Sad Clown) belts out a masterpiece carried by the house band and a smooth down tempo beat.

Oh, and this isn’t trick photography, it’s a seven foot tall clown. I'm looking forward to more like this in the future from the Jukebox.

Josh Pollock - Books About UFOs (cover)

Evidently, Josh Pollock is currently writing and performing in conjunction with a local theatre group, produced by the Shotgun Players. Not long ago he performed a solo act at the very same venue. With a little help from his sampler he delivers a truly stellar song, so turn it up.

This continues a streak of posted covers far beyond their original recordings, which unfortunately aren’t worth mentioning on their own accord.

Ben Middeldorp - L'amour Toujours (cover)

Recently I’ve developed a great appreciation for the traditional pipe organs as an incredible instrument. However, it’s this interpretation of a sub-par electronica piece that floored me.

One can only imagine what it must be like to hear it preformed in person bellowed out by this colossal, 50-foot beast. I’m overwhelmed.

Amanda Palmer - Creep (cover)

I've said it before, I'm a sucker for Ukuleles. Here Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls uses one to hammer home a rendition of Radiohead's breakout single "Creep." This happens to occur at Edinburough's Fringe festival, what might be said to be Europe's SXSW. Despite the poor video quality, this video captures an amazing moment between musician and audience. See it, be apart of it.

Lately she's been producing more music, including a bewildering conjoined twin act named Evelyn Evelyn along with accordion-mastermind, Jason Webley.

Charlyne Yi - Nothing Compares 2 U (cover)

This Prince cover amazes me. I think it might be the way her guitar sounds so much like a ukulele, or the tenderness in her voice, which really comes into its own when it hits the chorus the first time. Sinead O'Connor's version is great as well, and happens to be my first crush when it original aired.

Charlyne starred in the indie comedy film "Paper Hearts" along side Michael Cera, but recently has been writing and preforming in Edinburugh, as well as recording with her band, Old Lumps in LA.
